MIKE AND BRAIN JOTTER
Mike Ejeagha is a Nigerian folklorist, songwriter, and musician from Enugu State. He is often referred to as “Gentleman, Mike Ejeagha”. He was born on April 4, 1930, and for many years, he was a major player in
the development of Igbo music.Ejeagha began his musical career in the middle of the 20th century, and in 1960—the year Nigeria gained independence—he published his first popular song. He has over 300
recordings to his name and has made a major contribution to the growth and popularity of Igbo music. These recordings—made when he was conducting fieldwork and preserved at Nigeria’s National Archives
showcase his research on highlife music and Igbo folklore.Ejeagha’s storytelling approach, coupled with guitar accompaniment and lyrics filled with proverbs from the Igbo people, define his sound. He is a
distinctive and well-known artist due to the didactic nature of his music and the Igbo language used in his songs. He composes all of his own songs, many of which have deep lessons and messages to impart.
One of his numerous hits, “Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo,” is currently trending. Thanks to Brain Jotter, who revived the song, many content makers are capitalising on the trend by adopting a specific dance move.
According to rumours, Brain Jotter visited the 94-year-old musician to show his respects.
