Obama Backs Kamala Harris as Next US President
On Friday, former US President Barack Obama gave his support to fellow Democrat Kamala Harris‘ presidential bid, significantly bolstering her chances of defeating Donald Trump in November.
Michelle and I gave our friend Kamala Harris a call earlier this week. Obama stated on social networking platform X,
“We told her we think she’ll make a fantastic President of the United States and that she has our full support.”
“At this crucial juncture for our nation, we will exert every effort to ensure her victory in November.” We really hope you can come.
The powerful former leader was among the final prominent Democrats to endorse Harris, who had already gotten President Joe Biden’s support on Sunday to replace him on the ballot.
Obama’s support will strengthen Harris’s campaign, which has gained traction ever since she declared her last-minute bid for office.
Following weeks of unrest surrounding 81-year-old Biden, who withdrew from the race after a lackluster debate performance against Trump intensified doubts about his mental state and consistently low polling numbers, Harris, 59, entered the race.
While speaking to teachers on Thursday, the nation’s first female vice president—who hopes to create history once more in November—launched a scathing criticism of Trump and his “extremist” Republican colleagues.
Trump seemed taken aback by the momentum, as evidenced by his bombastic refusal to set up a debate with Harris.
He claimed on Thursday night that it would be “inappropriate” to do so until Harris was formally announced as the Democratic nominee.
A spokesperson for the Trump campaign, Steven Cheung, stated in a statement that “Democrats very well could still change their minds.”
On X, Harris, a former California top prosecutor, chastised her opponent by asking, “What happened to ‘any time, any place?'”
Regarding a possible showdown on September 10, she had earlier declared, “I’m ready.” So let’s move forward.
Union approval
The American Federation of Teachers, the first union to support Harris, cheered during their convention in Houston when Harris issued a warning that the nation was seeing a “full-on attack” by Trump’s Republicans on “hard-won, hard-fought freedoms.”
“While you are instructing children on representative governance and democracy, radicals are attacking the fundamental right to vote.
Extremists assault our freedom to live free from gun violence while you work to provide welcome, safe environments where our children may learn,” the woman stated.
During her speech, Harris was subjected to increasingly harsh language from Trump, who on Wednesday referred to her as a “radical left lunatic” and incorrectly stated that she supported the “execution” of newborns.
At 78 years old, Trump is the oldest presidential candidate in US history. He has pledged to “not give one penny” in government funding to schools that have vaccination requirements.
Such requirements are included in all American public schools.
