Due to the planned protest, NYSC suspends biometric clearance and CDS.
The weekly Community Development Services and the biometric clearance for National Youth Service Corps members nationwide have been discontinued by the organization.
The corps stated that this was required in light of the demonstration that is scheduled for August 1–10, 2024.
A message that was distributed across the nation to State Coordinators, Local Government Inspectors, and Zonal Inspectors revealed this.
As per the previous memo, which reminded corps members of the policy of the scheme that forbids them from participating in protests of any kind, all corps members are notified that biometric clearance and CDS activities have been ceased immediately. We shall notify you in due course of the date on which these activities will commence.
The NYSC has canceled all of its scheduled events, thus all corps members are instructed not to wear their uniforms this week for any reason.
“All corps members are guaranteed to receive care in their mufti during this time.”
The NYSC “will not tolerate any corps member participating in any form of protest that could lead to the breakdown of law and order,” according to the statement, which also highlighted the corps’ commitment to fostering togetherness.
According to information obtained by our correspondent, a memo distributed on Monday to corps members nationwide stated, “I am instructed to communicate the Director-General’s directives for prompt and strict compliance as follows: No corps member should wear a uniform during this week.
“Once more, no member of the corps should take part in any protest. Please keep an eye on everything and make sure everyone complies strictly.
The planned 10-day demonstration was organized by several Nigerians as a way to express their displeasure with the nation’s present economic situation.
This includes, among other things, expensive meals and expensive transportation.
Last Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu urged Nigerians to put the idea on hold through Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation.
“Mr. President does not see any need for that, in regards to the planned protest,” Idris stated. He requested that they put that idea on hold and wait for the government to respond to all of their requests.
Thus, a strike is not necessary. The President should be listened to by the youth of today, and they should give him more time to see that all of his gifts to them are realized.
