Umar Namadi, the governor of Jigawa State, enforced a 24-hour curfew on Friday in response to the country’s first day of widespread protest violence.

When announcing the curfew in a state broadcast, the governor called the development in the state regrettable.

However, in order to allow believers to attend the Juma’a prayer in the mosque on Friday, the governor allowed a two and a half hour relaxation of the curfew, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

“We declared the 24-hour curfew in order to guarantee the restoration of peace and stability.

To enable individuals to attend Friday prayer in the mosque, the curfew will be loosened on Friday from noon to 2:30 p.m.

We will not stand by and watch this peaceful march turn violent and violent, full of destruction and looting, as it is completely unacceptable and not part of our culture.
