Edo guber: Deny ineptitude in candidate – PDP urges voters
With the September 21, 2024 Edo State governorship election approaching, the Asue-Ogie Campaign Management Council urged the people of the state on Sunday to vote for a qualified candidate rather than risk their future.
At a Benin City press conference, the council issued the directive.
After briefing journalists, Olu Martins, the deputy director-general of the council responsible for media, responded to a statement attributed to Senator Adams Oshiomhole. In the statement, the senator claimed that a woman had been found in possession of packs of Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) in the Ovia Federal Constituency.
Additionally, he claimed that Oshiomhole, who issued the alert during an APC governorship rally, issued a challenge to PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo and Governor Godwin Obaseki to suppress any notion of election manipulation.
He urged the people of Edo to avoid repeating the voting patterns that resulted in the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan in favor of former President Muhammadu Buhari. However, he pointed out that Barrister Asue Ighodalo is the only candidate who can uphold and carry on the accomplishments of outgoing Governor Obaseki.
He asserts that since the gubernatorial contest is quickly coming, it is appropriate to inquire about the contributions made by the various political parties.
“We are warning the people of Edo not to make a mistake starting today, which is similar to what happened a while back when some of us shopped for Buhari because we thought Jonathan wasn’t that good.
In order for us to hold the candidates running in this election accountable tomorrow, he stated, “We are calling on political parties to allow candidates to speak for themselves.”
Before voting in the gubernatorial election, Martins advised the people of Edo to consider the backgrounds of political parties and their nominees.
We are advising the people of Edo to consider Asue Ighodalo and Monday Okpebholo as candidates carefully.
“Today, Edo people have an obligation to declare that you, the people, will not prevail in this election.
“We cannot pride mediocrity over merit. Edo State is our project,” he said, addressing his brothers and sisters both at home and abroad.
