Applications are now being accepted for the Rooted Future Labs Environmental Justice In Tech (EJIT) Fellowship In 2025. With this fellowship in full swing, there is a unique opportunity to shape environmental justice and technology while building expertise in research and innovation. This opportunity is fully remote and would be 20 hours per week for 12 weeks.
About EJIT Fellowship
In an effort to promote an inclusive atmosphere, Rooted Futures Lab strongly encourages applications from members of historically underrepresented groups.

The purpose of this fellowship program is to provide opportunities to people who have been historically excluded from environmental decision-making and technological development.
It would especially like to hear from interdisciplinary thinkers, indigenous knowledge holders, frontline communities, and people with significant environmental justice experience. This is about changing who has the ability to shape the direction of technology, not just about diversifying the population.
Project Areas In This Fellowship
Fellows will lead at least one remarkable project while collaborating with others:
• The Editor / GLITCH Digital Zine
• Will lead the creation of the annual Environmental Justice In Tech (EJIT) publication.
• Responsible for curating and shaping compelling narratives around tech and environmental justice.
• For coordinating the design, layout, and distribution of both digital and print editions.
• The Researcher / Data Governance & Climate Justice
• Will investigate digital climate misinformation through a climate justice lens.
• Contribute to groundbreaking research and data infrastructure.
• Will work under the direction of Dr. Benedetta Brevini.
• The Educator // Digital Educational Materials
• Responsible for creating climate justice and coding workshops using tools such as Jupyter Notebook, Google CoLab, etc.
• Develop educational materials for popular and higher education levels.
• Will work to design digital mapping and interactive activities.
• The Creative Creative & Cultural Interventions
• Work to conceptualize and prototype innovative ways to engage new audiences on environmental justice and technology.
• Responsible for collaborating with artists, writers, and technologists to create interdisciplinary projects.
• Will potentially organize and facilitate community events or online experiences that showcase the interventions.
Eligibility Criteria
These are the eligibility criteria for this award:
• Applicants should have experience with environmental justice through community work, lived experience, or study.
• Must possess strong writing and communication skills.
• Those who apply must be self-motivated project management abilities—working independently and meeting deadlines
• Candidates for this award must have a collaborative spirit and kind teamwork.
• Exhibit proficiency with digital collaboration tools (e.g., Zoom, Google Suite, and so on).
Benefits
A $3,000 stipend awaits those who come out as beneficiaries. The payment is also flexible suiting the needs of the beneficiary.
