The Kurt Schork Memorial Fund Awards for 2025 has now been open. This award is designed to excellence of personnels in reporting conflict, corruption, injustice, and other human right issues. With this award, journalist are encouraged to being professional regardless of the surge in violence and intimidation against media professionals.
Aim of this Award
The Kurt Schork Memorial Fund Awards recognizes journalist who take great risk in the course of their work for the truth to be exposed. To lay emphasis on this, the award has been named in memory of Kurt Schork who was killed in Sierra Leone while on duty.

Kurt Schork Memorial Award Categories
The Kurt Schork Memorial Award seeks to award individuals under these three categories:
1. Freelance Award
The Freelance Award was created to reward freelance journalists who travel to conflict zones to witness and report these events.
2. Local Reporter Award
This award takes into recognition underdeveloped or developing nations who report on issues in their home country.
3. News Fixer AwardÂ
The News Fixer Award category was established to recognize the work of journalists employed by foreigners to report international events from hostile situations.
Benefits
Individuals who emerge winners of these awards would be entitled to $5,000 cash prize.
Eligibility CriteriaÂ
Here are the eligibility criteria for these awards:
• All journalists, local reporters and news fixers around the world are welcome to apply.
• Applicants for the Local Reporters and Freelance Journalists should submit three articles each. These articles must be published between June 01, 2024 and June 15, 2025. Subsequently, the panel of judges would look into the articles for proof of excellence.
• Those in the categories for the News Fixer Award must submit three references from foreign correspondents with whom they have worked for.
