Applications Open for Black Opportunity Fund – Justice Grant 2025
The Black Opportunity Fund (BOF)—Justice Grant 2025 is accepting applications to support Black-led, Black-serving organizations across Canada. This grant is dedicated to tackling systemic injustices while promoting equity and empowerment within Black communities.
Designed to enhance the capacity, impact, and effectiveness of Black-led initiatives, this grant focuses on organizations working to improve justice-related services and access.
Key Focus Areas
The BOF Justice Grant program prioritizes funding initiatives aimed at the following:
- Reintegration Programs: Services that assist individuals transitioning back into society after justice system involvement.
- Prevention and Support Services: Programs designed to reduce incarceration risks.
- Mental Health and Wellbeing: Initiatives providing tools for healing, mental health care, and self-advocacy.
- Legal System Reform: Advocacy efforts to push for equitable reforms in the legal system and increase access to legal services.
- Fighting Racial Discrimination: Efforts aimed at addressing racial inequality within the justice system.
- Educational Advocacy: Campaigns focused on educating communities and promoting policy changes to ensure lasting equality.
- Justice System Empowerment: Projects that enable Black individuals to navigate and thrive within the justice system.
Eligibility Requirements
Organizations must meet these criteria to apply:
- Black-Led and Black-Focused: Applicants must be Black-led, Black-serving organizations advancing justice within Black communities.
- Nonprofit Status: Must be a registered nonprofit or charity in Canada.
- Active Justice Work: Applicants should have an active or proposed justice-related project.
- Demonstrated Impact: A clear plan to use grant funds for measurable, impactful justice initiatives.
- Financial Compliance:
- Up-to-date financial records for the past two years.
- Audited financial statements (for grants of $50,000 or more) covering three years, completed by a licensed public accountant.
- Digital Presence: Maintain an active website and social media presence.
- Tax and Financial Standing:
- No outstanding tax debt (or a documented payment plan with recent compliance).
- No history of bankruptcy.
Application Deadline
Applications must be submitted by Thursday, January 23, 2025.
