Arms center to destroy N4 billion in weapons that Customs has confiscated

After all paperwork is finished, the massive cache of weapons and ammunition that the Nigerian Customs Service intercepted will be

destroyed, according to the National Center for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.

The center attested to the fact that the firearms had been turned over to it by customs.

In Port Harcourt, Nigerian Customs officials seized a 40-foot container that included 844 rifles and 112,500 live rounds during one of their operations.

It was said that the weapons and ammo had been deftly hidden behind furniture, doors, plumbing fixtures, and leather bags.

It was also alleged that the intercepted cargo was duty-paid valued at N4 billion and that it originated in Turkey.

The center’s Director of Strategic Communications and Information, Group Captain Pius Okwuego, stated in a statement on

Monday that the weapons that had been confiscated were turned up in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.

“Today in Port Harcourt, the Nigerian Customs Service, led by Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, formally turned over the seized weapons and ammunition to the NCCSALW.

The statement said: “This transfer is a significant step in the collaborative efforts between national security agencies to safeguard public safety and Nigeria’s borders.”

According to Okwuego, the weapons will be destroyed in order to keep them from posing a threat to society.

Johnson Kokumo, a retired deputy inspector general of police, is the Center’s national coordinator.

This seizure is evidence of the Nigerian Customs Service’s steadfast efforts to safeguard our country against the threats posed by illegal weapons.

According to reports, Kokumo stated, “The NCCSALW will make sure that these weapons are properly documented and destroyed to prevent them from ever posing a threat to our society.”
