A computer scientist from Australia may now be charged with “wholescale perjury and forgery of documents.”
After a High Court decision in March rejected his claims, Dr. Craig Wright published a legal notice on his website declaring that he is not the anonymous creator of bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto.
A group of cryptocurrency companies filed the lawsuit against the Australian computer scientist, claiming that in his earlier attempts to prosecute bitcoin developers for utilizing the technology, he had engaged in “industrial scale” forgeries.
In an attempt to prove he was Satoshi Nakamoto, Dr. Wright lied “extensively and repeatedly,” according to Justice Mellor, the presiding judge, who made this statement at the time.
After the lawsuit was ended, Justice Mellor stated, “The evidence is overwhelming that Dr. Wright is not the author of the bitcoin white paper.”
The majority of his falsehoods concerned the documents he had falsified to back up his assertion, therefore Dr. Wright’s attempts to establish his identity as Satoshi Nakamoto amount to a grave misuse of this court’s proceedings.
For widespread perjury and document falsification, Justice Mellor has now declared that he will forward the case to the Crown Prosecution Service “for consideration of whether a prosecution should be commenced against Dr Wright.”
Additionally, Dr. Wright, who resides in the UK at the moment, might be subject to extradition procedures.
In a statement published on his website on Tuesday, he admitted that his claims to be the inventor of the first cryptocurrency in history had been false.
The court concluded that Dr. Wright attempted to fabricate a story by falsifying papers “on a grand scale” and presenting them as evidence, and that he “lied to the court extensively and repeatedly” in his testimony. The legal warning reads, “Dr. Wright is not the author of the Bitcoin White Paper,” alluding to the 2008 publication written under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto that popularized the idea of bitcoin.
“Dr. Wright is not the individual who assumed or used the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto from 2008 to 2011… The bitcoin system was not established by Dr. Wright.
