Call for Applications: APNI Scholarship Program 2025 Offers $2,000 to African Graduate Students

The African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI) has officially announced the opening of its 2025 scholarship program, targeting graduate students engaged in research related to plant nutrition and nutrient management in African agriculture. The scholarship is designed to recognize and support emerging scientists across the continent whose work is contributing to sustainable food systems.

The initiative provides financial assistance in the form of ten individual awards valued at $2,000 USD. These awards are aimed at encouraging innovation and research excellence among students pursuing advanced degrees in soil science, agronomy, and horticulture—with a particular focus on plant nutrition.

About APNI

Established in 2019, APNI is a non-profit research and education institute headquartered in Benguérir, Morocco. The institute’s mission centers around improving plant nutrition practices to build a food-secure and climate-resilient Africa. It collaborates with universities, research institutions, and agricultural organizations across the continent to promote evidence-based solutions that address key agricultural challenges.

Scholarship Benefits

Each selected candidate will receive a $2,000 grant, intended to support academic and research activities related to their graduate studies. The funds may be used to cover research costs, educational expenses, or fieldwork directly related to plant nutrition.

Who Can Apply?

The program is open to students who meet the following criteria:

• Enrolled in M.Sc., M.Phil., or Ph.D. programs in relevant disciplines, including soil science, agronomy, horticultural science, or tree crop science.

• Must be attending a recognized degree-granting institution in Africa.

• The research focus must align with the study of plant nutrition or the management of nutrients used in crop production.

Required Documents for Application

Applicants must submit the following materials in either English or French:

• Academic Transcripts: A digital copy of official transcripts showing cumulative and final grade records. These should include GPA or percentile details.

• Letters of Recommendation: Two signed letters on official letterhead. One letter must be from the applicant’s academic advisor or major professor and must include the recommender’s phone number and email address.

• Research Summary: A detailed description of the applicant’s thesis or dissertation research. This should highlight the originality, scope, depth, and innovative aspects of the project. Reviewers will also assess its relevance to plant nutrition in Africa.

• Additional Background Information: A short narrative that may include academic honors, employment history, long-term career goals, and other relevant extracurricular or community activities.
