About This Prize
The 1952 Africa Foundation, in partnership with the HOW Foundation, is pleased to announce the first-ever Chizi Wigwe Prize for African Futurism, which provides a $15,000 grant to an exceptional artist whose work embodies African Futurism and speaks to the theme “Africa in 2100.”
This initiative highlights the Foundation’s commitment to fostering a thriving and inclusive creative community where African artists can flourish and contribute significantly to international discussions.
The Africa Futurism Theme
The Africa Futurism theme should be characterized by cultural heritage, technology, and imagination. These should be the thematic foundation of the art expressed by the African artist. In addition, artists are advised to explore these questions through their works:
• What role will the African continent play in addressing global challenges and advancing humanity in general?
• What will African communities look like in 2100?
• How will the use of technology shape the tradition, art, and innovation on the continent?

What Are The Eligibility Criteria?
Those who can participate in this award should:
• Be between the ages of 18 – 45 years.
• Should submit an official entry application with the theme “Africa in 2100”.
• Every artistic discipline is welcome to participate.

• Project Proposal (contains artistic projects that align with the relevance of African futurism).
• Portfolio (consists of a collection of the artist’s previous works).
