The University of Pavia, in partnership with EDISU (Institute for the Right to University Studies), has announced the opening of applications for the CICOPS Scholarships 2026. These scholarships, specifically aimed at Visiting Scholars from developing countries, provide an exciting opportunity to foster international cooperation and collaboration. The program is designed for scholars who wish to carry out research at the University of Pavia for a duration of 4 to 12 weeks in the year 2026.

Aimed at promoting the mobility of researchers from developing nations, the CICOPS Scholarships seek to encourage research collaboration in the short term. Six scholarships will be awarded, providing scholars with the resources necessary for successful research collaboration with a faculty member at the University of Pavia. Applicants will be given the chance to work alongside esteemed professionals, enhancing their research and contributing to the broader academic community.

Scholarship Details

The scholarship package covers various expenses to support scholars throughout their stay in Italy, including:

  • Travel: Round-trip economy class airfare

  • Accommodation and Food: Living expenses are fully covered, including accommodation and meal allowances.

  • Health Insurance: A comprehensive health insurance policy will be provided during the scholarship period.

  • Stipend: A weekly contribution of €150 (gross) will be given to cover additional costs.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the CICOPS Scholarship 2026, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in teaching or active involvement within international organizations or institutions.

  • Target Group: The scholarships are aimed at both junior and senior members of universities in developing countries, as well as members of prominent research centers and international organizations with a focus on development studies.

  • Exclusion: Applicants currently enrolled in a Doctoral or Postgraduate Course at an Italian University are not eligible to apply.

  • Research Focus: The scholarships are intended for short-term research collaboration to promote mobility between countries, particularly in development studies.

Evaluation Process

The selection process for the CICOPS Scholarships 2026 will be rigorous and consider several factors, including:

  • Scientific Relevance: The research project’s alignment with the university’s ongoing projects, particularly those in the development field.

  • Curriculum Vitae: The professional background, experience, and academic qualifications of the applicant.

  • Geographical and Departmental Balance: The fair distribution of scholarships across various departments and geographical regions to ensure diversity and equal opportunity.

Application Instructions

Interested applicants should ensure their application includes the following documents:

  1. Curriculum Vitae: Ideally in the European format, with a comprehensive list of publications. The file should be named as follows: Surname_Name_CV.

  2. Invitation Letter: A letter from the professor or researcher with whom the applicant intends to collaborate, confirming the collaboration. The file should be named Surname_Name_Letter.

Applicants should ensure that the documents are uploaded with the correct file names, as applications that do not adhere to these naming conventions will not be considered. It is also essential to submit the application form only after receiving an acceptance letter from a faculty member at the University of Pavia. Incomplete applications will be automatically rejected.

The application deadline for the CICOPS Scholarships 2026 is May 31, 2025. Interested scholars are encouraged to submit their applications well before the deadline to ensure their eligibility.
