JUST IN: The EFCC increases security at its Lagos office due to an upcoming protest
In response to a planned protest, the Lagos State Command’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has increased security at the entrance.
Joint security personnel are stationed at all roads leading to the EFCC office, which is located at Awolowo Road in the Ikoyi region of the state.
The Nation writes on Friday that men from the Department of State Services and agents of the Lagos State Anti-Crime Outfit’s Rapid Response Squad are among them.
A former governor and two former ministers are the driving forces behind the planned rallies against the EFCC, according to
intelligence obtained by some civil society organizations, according to the commission’s head of media and publicity, Dele Oyewale, who made this announcement on Thursday.
This is in response to the commission’s warning that certain organizations were preparing a string of anti-commission demonstrations.
The demands of the demonstrators, Concerned Nigeria Youths, were uploaded by a user on X.com going by the handle #PidomNigeria.
The letter was addressed to Ola Olukoyede, the chairman of the EFCC, on July 4, 2024.
The demonstration is scheduled to happen, and #ReformEFCC will be the hashtag on X.com.
The demands are as follows: “Respect our fundamental human rights, Stop the stereotyping and profiling of young innocent
Nigerian youths, Be more professional and civil in your operations, Stop the indiscriminate arrest and invasion of people’s homes/businesses in
the middle of the night like armed robbers,” among other things.
