Faction led by Amaewhule is not entitled to serve Notice of Fubara’s impeachment—Ikwere LGA chair, Orji
The Martin-Amaewhule led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly does not have the authority to serve an impeachment notice to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara,
according to Darlington Orji, the caretaker chairman of the Ikwerre Local Government Area in Rivers State. He further stated that the faction is not recognized as members of the State House of Assembly.
Remember that Fubara received an ultimatum from the leadership of the House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, to bring the 2024 appropriations measure back to the House for consideration.
“The Martin-led administration lacks the locus to serve the governor with an impeachment notice,” he declared.
They are not, in my opinion, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly as of right now because of the problems they brought about for themselves.
The Rivers people are waiting for the governor to be impeached, and we will fight against it as they are unable to serve the governor with an impeachment notice.
“I have the right to appear in court and ask the Chief Judge of Rivers State to kindly not recognize these individuals.
Insofar as the law is concerned, we won’t know if they are members of the Rivers State House of Assembly until the Supreme Court declares their position.
There, it is possible for a group of individuals to join together and make any kind of statement. The Appeal Court stated that the
lower court that issued the decision lacked the authority to declare them members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, even though they are not members and will remain so until their status is resolved.
But keep in mind that the speaker is the one who is required by the constitution to have the authority to proclaim their seat vacant.
The Right Honorable Edison Ehie, who was speaking at the time, wrote to INEC to proclaim their seats vacant.
If it weren’t for the politics we are engaged in, we ought to be discussing the next byelection in Rivers State at this point, not whether or not they are members.
“This is a political error that they brought about on their own, and naturally, their leader has acknowledged this.
Why don’t they represent themselves to the public so that we may observe and gauge their popularity if they believe they are well-liked and that Rivers people adore them?
“There are too many legs to the issue in Rivers state,” Orji stated in reference to the Rivers Court of Appeal’s decision to overturn the expulsion of
Amaewhule and 24 other people from the Rivers House of Assembly.

“The ruling issued by the state High Court yesterday affirmed their earlier stance, which states that the Chief Judge of Rivers State is not allowed to meet with these young men,
these men from the Committee of Friends, who are posing as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, until these issues are resolved.
“Now, as I mentioned before, there are other problems at hand that are not related to the Appeal Court’s ruling that the lower court lacks jurisdiction to consider that matter.
“Now, what’s occurring in Rivers State is that, as I mentioned to you before, I was the PDP’s spokesperson during the election campaign that brought in Martins Amaewhule, and I call the group of young men we campaigned for my friends.
Additionally, they were elected under the PDP. Naturally, I am aware that your station reported on their defection and related events.
And these are folks who claim to be honorable members,” the speaker remarked.
