Grealish and Maguire are not in the England squad for Euro 2024.
Gareth Southgate unexpectedly left out Jack Grealish from England’s Euro 2024 roster on Thursday due to the Manchester City winger’s unsatisfactory season finale.
Grealish became the most well-known player to be left off of Southgate’s initial 33-man roster as a result of a marked decline in performance in
the second half of this season.
The 28-year-old missed City’s FA Cup final matchup with Manchester United in May, and he was not used as a substitute during the
Premier League champions’ championship matchup with West Ham.
Despite Grealish’s appearance as a substitute in England’s victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday,
Southgate was not persuaded to offer Grealish a seat on the flight to Germany.
Not only did the City attacker lose his spot in the England team, but James Maddison, a playmaker for Tottenham,
and Harry Maguire, a defender for Manchester United, were also cut.
Maddison had a dismal finish to the domestic season, and Maguire struggled with a calf issue that prevented him from demonstrating his fitness.
The other players left off of Southgate’s final 26-man roster were Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite,
Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, and Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah.
