IPCC Scholarship Programme 2025–2027 Now Open for Applications | €15,000 Grant Opportunity
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has officially announced the opening of applications for the 2025–2027 IPCC Scholarship Programme. This opportunity is directed at doctoral students who have completed at least one year of their PhD programme, as well as researchers engaged in post-doctoral studies. The focus is on advancing research in climate science and its interconnected disciplines, with each selected scholar eligible to receive up to €15,000 annually for two years.
The IPCC Scholarship Programme stems from funds received through the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, awarded jointly to the IPCC and Al Gore. This funding has since been supplemented by generous donations from supporting partners. Since its inception in 2011, the programme has awarded scholarships to 116 students. In its most recent cycle (2023–2025), 24 students from developing and transitioning economies were selected.

Scholarship Value and Duration

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following conditions to qualify for the programme:

Be currently enrolled in a PhD programme for at least one year, or be conducting post-doctoral research.

Hold citizenship of a developing country.

Priority will be given to candidates from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) who are pursuing their studies outside their country of origin.
Selection Process Overview
The award process follows a multi-stage evaluation system designed to ensure transparency and scientific rigor:

Eligibility Screening: All applications are reviewed by the IPCC Secretariat to confirm eligibility.

Expert Review: Qualified applications are evaluated by a panel of reviewers, including current and former IPCC authors, editors, and bureau members.

Science Board Assessment: Recommendations from reviewers are passed on to the IPCC Scholarship Programme Science Board, consisting of the IPCC Chair and three Vice-Chairs.

Shortlisting: The Science Board compiles a shortlist of recommended candidates.
