LP group to Judges and INEC: Uphold the Electoral Act
City of Benin—The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Judiciary have been urged by the Catalyst Committee (CC), a pressure group within the Labour Party (LP), to resist political pressure
and adhere to the law and the Electoral Act 2022, as amended, with regard to the party’s candidacy.

Remember that Imasuangbon had taken Akpata to Federal High Courts in Benin City and Abuja to get an interpretation of the constitution regarding Akpata’s candidacy for the party?
The group declared: “INEC should be aware that Olumide Akpata is not the only candidate running for governor; there are sixteen other candidates.” As a result, INEC and the legal system cannot afford to be
perceived as changing the objectives in defiance of the established guidelines and the rule of law.
The incapacity to follow the law is a glaring reason for disqualification, it must be emphasized. Thus, no one should support a candidate who has willfully disregarded INEC guidelines or election regulations.
“The Judiciary and INEC should know that the people are watching and it is not about Olumide of the Labour party but the entire process,” the statement reads.
