Mastercard Foundation Scholarships for Master’s Programme 2025/2026 at Makerere University
In partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, Makerere University has officially announced the opening of applications for its 2025/2026 Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. The program is designed to provide fully funded master’s degree scholarships to academically talented yet economically disadvantaged young Africans.
As part of a decade-long initiative to promote inclusive education and regional development, the program is set to empower 1,000 scholars by its conclusion. The scholarships target students who show strong academic ability, leadership potential, and a commitment to contributing to their communities.

All applications must be submitted by Friday, June 6, 2025, at 11:59 PM East Africa Time (EAT).
Overview of the Scholarship Support Package
Successful applicants will receive a comprehensive scholarship that covers both academic and welfare-related costs throughout the program. The scholarship package includes:

Bedding and personal items

Medical insurance

Monthly stipend

Transport allowances for travel to and from home
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University, candidates must meet a set of eligibility conditions. These include:

Must have applied for admission to a Master’s degree programme at Makerere University’s main campus for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Must have completed their undergraduate studies in an African country.

Must be financially disadvantaged, with no access to other scholarship funding.

Must not currently hold or have completed a Master’s degree.

Must not be over 35 years of age at the time of application. However, applicants under the categories of refugees or students with disabilities may apply up to the age of 40.

Must have demonstrated leadership qualities and/or community engagement.

Must fall under one of the following categories:

Ugandan nationals
-
Refugees (must present a Refugee Identity Card or Family Attestation)

Internally displaced individuals
-
Students with disabilities
-
Other international applicants from Sub-Saharan Africa

Must have applied for a Master’s degree program aligned with the focus areas of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.
