Applications are now open for the Spring 2025 NASW Peggy Girshman Idea Grants! The National Association of Science Writers (NASW) is offering funding of up to $5,000 for projects designed to support science writers and enhance the field of science communication. Individuals and groups are encouraged to apply with proposals that align with NASW’s mission and offer direct benefits to U.S.-based science writers.
Since its inception in 2010, NASW has distributed nearly $600,000 in grant funding to initiatives that uplift the science writing community. This grant honors Peggy Girshman, a dedicated NASW board member and one of the founding members of the NASW Grants Committee. Her passion for empowering writers continues through this program.

Application Process
The NASW Grants Committee encourages fresh, creative ideas. While guidelines remain broad, priority is given to proposals that introduce new concepts, resources, or programs that haven’t been funded through previous NASW grants. A strong application should also highlight how the project will continue to have an impact beyond the grant period.
