New training equivalent to NYSC for NCE graduates.
The Ministry of Youth Development says it is developing a training program similar to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for National Certificate of Education (NCE) graduates.
Wisdom stated that the ministry will work with the Ministry of Education to implement new training reforms, one of which is the equivalent of NYSC training for NCE holders and others.
He stated that societal vices had existed for a long time, but that youth training provided by organizations such as the Boys’ Brigade, Girl Guides, and others had kept many people away from them. “The ministry’s top priority is citizenship and training, and we’re bringing them back.
“So, we want to set up a training so that you don’t have to travel to other states; you can have it in your state and at the camp.”
“A lot of reforms are going on and we are trying as much as possible to bring a renewed hope to people; to the girls and boys,” he elaborated.
He praised Dr Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the founder of the BEMORE Empowered Girls Foundation, for making significant contributions to the development of girls and improving the standard of excellence.
Wisdom, however, urged assistance for BEMORE and other organizations in the progress of Nigerian women and girls.
Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the wife of the former governor of Ondo State, addressed the wrong notion that the initiative belonged to and was funded by the Ondo State Government.
She says the effort aims to develop future female STEM leaders. She added that the program was created out of her childhood experiences and aimed to promote the progress of girls.
“We cannot achieve development if we leave behind 50 per cent of our population, made up of women and girls,” Anyanwu-Akeredolu said.
In his address, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Odu’a Investments, Mr Abdulrahman Yinusa, urged participants to take full advantage of the knowledge imparted at the training.
He praised the organisers and mentors for investing in girls’ futures through technical projects that would propel the future toward sustainability.
