Organization of American States (OAS) Academic Scholarships Program 2025

Applications are officially open for the 2025 Organization of American States (OAS) Academic Scholarships Program. This initiative provides funding opportunities for individuals pursuing Master’s or PhD-level studies at universities or educational institutions across OAS member states—excluding Canada (for Canadian applicants).
About the OAS Academic Scholarships
As part of its mission to foster economic, social, scientific, and cultural development, the OAS awards scholarships to support advanced education in priority fields. By strengthening academic ties, this program enhances collaboration and understanding among nations in the Americas. Each year, at least one Canadian applicant will be awarded a scholarship to study or conduct research abroad.
Scholarship Categories
Two types of scholarships are available:
- OAS Consortium University Scholarships
- Candidates can apply to up to three programs at universities within the OAS Consortium of Universities, located in different OAS member states.
- Applicants must select at least two different countries in their OAS application to qualify.
- The OAS may assign a study destination for selected candidates.
- Choosing this option increases the likelihood of receiving a scholarship.
- Non-OAS Consortium University Scholarships
- Candidates apply directly for admission to any university or educational institution of their choice within an OAS member state.
- The OAS scholarship application is a separate process from university admission.
Scholarship Benefits
- Scholarship Value: Up to $10,000 USD (subject to change).
- Covers tuition, research costs, and other eligible expenses.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
- Have completed the required degree(s) before submitting the application.
- Meet the minimum GPA requirements set by the host university.
- Be in good physical and mental health to successfully complete their studies.
- Demonstrate language proficiency in the language of instruction at the chosen institution.
Application Process
The application process consists of two steps:
Step 1: Submit the OAS online application for graduate studies, including all required supporting documents.
Step 2: Complete the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) application via the My EduCanada portal.
Important: Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Ensure all materials are submitted by March 13, 2025.
