Owners of vehicles must pay N5,375 for e-CMR as police set a deadline of July 29.
Vehicle owners in Nigeria have until July 29 to register their vehicles for the digitalized Central Motor Registry (e-CMR), which is priced at N5,375 per vehicle, according to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The NPF urged drivers to register within the next 14 days and stated in a statement released on Saturday that the e-CMR will be enforced as a required document for vehicle owners starting on that date.
Although the cost of registration varies depending on the type of vehicle, Nairametrics tried to register a sedan/saloon car, and the platform produced an invoice for N5,375 (VAT included).
The e-CMR, according to the Police, is a sophisticated, real-time online database of motor vehicle data created to aid in operational activities, police investigations, and the fight against crimes involving vehicles, such as armed robbery, banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping.
It further stated that the documentation and verification procedures for car ownership and related transactions will be streamlined by moving to a digitalized system.

“The Nigeria Police Force is scheduled to begin the enforcement of the digitalized Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) within the next 14 days, specifically on July 29, 2024.
This will revitalize and digitalize the motor vehicle registration system, significantly bolstering our nation’s safety and security framework as part of the efforts of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, NPM, Ph.D., to enhancing the security of lives and property.”
“Services like engine, chassis, and body changes, as well as ownership and license number changes, would be seamless to implement after the
IGP’s directives because the e-CMR system would validate the authenticity and ownership of the vehicle, improving the ability to track and recover stolen vehicles and preventing their purchase.
The Nigeria Police Force said it was dedicated to using technology and strategic ways to improve public safety and national security,
even as it asked for the understanding and cooperation of Nigerians and residents on this endeavor.
It went on to say that by drastically lowering the likelihood of selling stolen cars in the nation, the e-CMR’s enforcement is essential to ensuring a safer and more secure environment for car ownership and destroying the trend of vehicle theft.
prerequisites for registering
Only internet-enabled devices, including PCs or smartphones, can be used to register automobiles using the e-CMR portal.
In order to register, you must create a profile on the website https://cmris.npf.gov.ng.
This will need providing your house address, phone number, email address, and National Identification Number (NIN).
The license plate, engine number, and chassis number of the car are needed for registration.
To use the platform and make payments, you will also need your ATM card.
