A youth group from Enugu leaves the national protest
The group Enugu Innovative Youth has declared that, in spite of Nigeria’s worsening economic conditions and hunger, it will not take part in any more “destructive protests.”
The group, which is made up of representatives from each of the state’s 17 local government areas, pledged to uphold peace and stability in the state during a press conference on Friday in Enugu.
Jude Aniagu, the group’s publicity secretary, emphasized that Enugu State is making tremendous strides under Governor Peter Mbah’s leadership even as she acknowledged
the catastrophic circumstances facing the nation, which include widespread hunger, financial difficulties, and a high debt ratio.
The group urges their colleagues to avoid taking part in the proposed Nationwide Hunger Protest, citing the positive changes and “breath of fresh air” in Enugu State,
even if they acknowledge the rationale behind the protest, which is set for August 1–10, 2024.
We are aware that thugs and evildoers may try to use the planned nationwide hunger protest as a vehicle for their own agenda.
As a result, the young people in Enugu State need to step back and keep their distance from the devastation of our shared history.
One of the federation’s most tranquil and fruitful states is Enugu State, which we own. We must allow the mass protest to lead us back into a condition of chaos and inadequate infrastructure.
“Enugu youths, under Governor Mbah’s outstanding and outstanding performance in the state, must resist any attempt to destroy or deface the aesthetics, beauty, and ambience of Enugu.”
The group claimed that thugs intended to use the protest to promote their evil goals of inciting attacks on state youths who were peaceful, and they did not want to lose the lives of Enugu youths in it.
“As we urge peace among the state’s youth, we also call on the federal government and the state government,
led by Governor Mbah, to hold discussions with the youth of Enugu about the most effective ways to reduce the state’s unemployment rate and poverty headcount index ratio, particularly among the youth.
We also know that the Enugu State Government intends to provide training in information technology and entrepreneurship development, together with strategic programs, to help create jobs for young people.
“We must work to be the beneficiaries of this grandiose vision rather than letting this protest take our lives.
We appeal for calm and peace because we know that any demonstration in Enugu will harm our shared heritage,
which Governor Mbah is assiduously working to resuscitate through his vast infrastructural initiatives in our dear state.
