Mrs Igiebor, the woman who tore her husband’s passport, has spoken out about her reasons for tearing her husband’s passport.
According to her, they had family troubles long before returning to Nigeria from Europe.
Igiebor, a TikTok video maker known for posting about her spouse and children, revealed the news on Monday.
In the video, she stated, “This issue has been ongoing for a long time. And I must do what I did. Don’t focus solely on my activities. I’m not a madwoman. I have been through so many things. I’ve got my own motives.
“What if I had done this in Europe, where we are from? I didn’t want him to go through too much stress, so I did it in Nigeria. There were so many individuals at the airport that day who watched me act. It has always been a family issue. Even my husband is unable to discuss it. I suffered alongside him, and now his family wants to destroy my pain.
“To be honest, I did it so that my spouse would not return (to Europe). I have experienced pain. Many people do not understand what I am going through. My hubby bought me an iPhone to calm me down. It’s been going on for years. He understands that I have not forgotten it; I am only pretending to have gone past it.”
The woman also apologized to Nigerians who were angry over her action and to Nigerian immigration.
Igiebor also claimed that her husband had neglected her for the sake of his family, saying, “My husband is a mummy’s boy, sister’s and brother’s best brother.” Making me, the wife, suffer. I did what I could to let him know that I had been bearing his agony.
“Those of you clamoring for my arrest should come and hold me accountable. I cry every time after three children. They should let me reap what I sowed with him. “My husband should come out and explain what happened,” she emphasized.
Although Igiebor did not disclose detailed information regarding the circumstances that resulted in the passport destruction, she did make reference to family-related concerns.
The Nigerian Immigration Service has initiated an investigation into the event.
Kenneth Udo, the NIS Public Relations Officer, issued a statement on Sunday.
The NIS stated that her acts may constitute a breach of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as modified), which bans the purposeful destruction of Nigerian travel papers. The act imposes particular sanctions for such offenses.
The statement went on to underline the service’s commitment to strictly enforcing the Immigration Act in order to protect national security and the integrity of Nigeria’s legal and diplomatic instruments.
