The resolution on Nnamdi Kanu by the Southeast Governors was not signed by Obasanjo.
When Olusegun Obasanjo, the former president, met with governors on Tuesday, he did not discuss the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
Governors decided to meet with President Bola Tinubu over Kanu, the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), through the auspices of the South-East Governors’ Forum.
One of the conclusions made at the Enugu summit was a planned “engagement” with the federal government on Kanu, according to Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo and chairman of the forum.
On the same day, Obasanjo visited the South-East Governors Forum as a show of support.
Obasanjo said that “regional development issues” were the main topic of discussion during his meeting with the governors in a statement released
through Kehinde Akinyemi, his special assistant for media affairs.
“The security and infrastructural challenges are among the issues related to regional development. The statement says,
“Others were cooperative/collaborative and economic, which was meant to complement the national economic development agenda.”
“Before their summit starts, Chief Emeka Anyaoku and I invited them to a meeting. According to reports, Obasanjo stated, “The Nnamdi Kanu issue was not on the agenda and was not discussed in my presence.”
Since his extradition to Nigeria in 2021, Kanu has been under the Department of State Services’ (DSS’s) supervision.
He was refused bail in May and is currently facing allegations that might be considered treasonable felonies.
