Flood: Rhodes-Vivour is taunted by the Lagos Commissioner
The Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for governor of Lagos in 2023, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has been the target of taunts from
Tokunbo Wahab, Lagos Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, about the latter’s recent remarks regarding the state’s flood crisis.
Epe, Eredo, Bogije, Labora, Abijon, Sangotedo, Awoyaya, and Ibeju-Lekki are a few of the regions impacted.
In Ikosi, Lagos State’s Ketu district, a flood carried away a primary six student named Joshua.
In response, Rhodes-Vivour published a video of a weed-covered canal in Lekki Phase 1 on X on Thursday.
She weighed in and questioned who was more responsible for clearing the canal to allow rainfall to flow freely: the government or the people.
This Lekki canal is clogged with weeds, making it difficult for water to move freely. He wrote, “As I always say, clearing canals is far easier than demolishing buildings.”
Wahab responded back, “You will be fine eventually.”
The commissioner promised on Wednesday to remove numerous buildings that are impeding the natural flow of rainwater.
“The Igbo-owned property and business demolition we witnessed in Lagos 2023, was all politically engineered?” the commissioner furiously demanded in a post on X.
In a post, @PureStanley1 said “Are we all in agreement now that the Igbo-owned businesses and property that were demolished in Lagos in 2023 were all politically engineered? …
we were informed that some of the structures were constructed on top of canals, obstructing the water’s passage and resulting in flooding in Lagos.
@tokunbo_wahab Could you please clarify why, following a demolition frenzy on properties owned by IGBOS, there was another flood in Lagos yesterday and early today?

Wahab, however, retaliated, accusing the X user of promoting ethnic narrative.
“Significantly more buildings that hinder the unimpeded passage of precipitation in Lagos will be demolished, regardless of the identity or social standing of their proprietors.
Get your thoughts ready to create that same dull, meaningless noise it always makes. Go ahead and transform it into an ethnic story if that makes you happy! TW,” he wrote.
