The International News Media Association (INMA) has opened applications for the 2025 edition of its Africa Elevate Scholarship Programme, designed to support the next generation of African news media professionals. This initiative targets young professionals who are passionate about journalism but lack the practical training and business-side education needed to grow within the industry.

The scholarship aims to bridge the gap between editorial passion and commercial strategy, helping early-career individuals gain the knowledge, tools, and network they need to become influential leaders in media across the continent.

Programme Overview

The Africa Elevate Scholarship is not just a learning opportunity—it is a career catalyst. Training Modules

The scholarship consists of four virtual modules, specifically designed to offer a 360° view of the media business landscape. These modules are:

  • Navigating the Corridors of Power in Media – Influencing change and managing relationships within organizations.

  • What to Know Now About Digital Transformation – How technology is reshaping newsrooms.

  • How AI Is Being Deployed at Media Companies – Practical uses of artificial intelligence in journalism.

Each module includes live-streamed sessions, recordings, and peer discussions, offering flexibility and a strong sense of community among participants.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Aged under 35 years

  • Have less than five years of experience in the news media industry

  • Not hold a senior management position

  • Reside full-time in Africa

  • Show a clear need for practical training and mentorship

  • Have a long-term interest in the news media profession

  • Commit to attending and participating in all four virtual modules
