Who Can Apply?
To qualify for ELAP 2025, candidates must:
- Be a citizen of an eligible country in the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, or South America.
- Be enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution in an eligible country.
- Continue paying tuition fees to their home institution throughout the scholarship period.

Students from the following regions can apply:
- Caribbean: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos.
- Central America: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama.
- North America: Mexico.
- South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela.
Scholarship Benefits
Selected students will receive funding based on their level of study and program duration:
- Undergraduate & College-Level Exchange: $8,200 CAD (4 months / 1 academic term). Tuition fees must be waived under an exchange agreement.
- Graduate-Level Exchange (Master’s & PhD): $8,200 CAD (4 months / 1 academic term). Tuition waiver is NOT required.
- Graduate-Level Exchange (5-6 months): $11,100 CAD.
Who is NOT eligible?
Candidates CANNOT apply if they:
- Hold or have applied for Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
- Are already part of another Canadian government-funded scholarship.
- Are currently enrolled in a degree, diploma, or certificate program in Canada.
Requirements for Canadian Institutions
Institutions in Canada interested in hosting students through ELAP must:
- Be a Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
- Have a valid student exchange agreement with the candidate’s home institution (applies to undergraduate and college-level students only).
How Applications Are Evaluated
The selection process prioritizes:
- Quality of proposed study or research—How relevant and beneficial is the program?
- Impact on home institution & peers— How will the student contribute to their academic community?
- Impact on Canadian institution & faculty— What connections and collaborations will be established?
- Strength of academic linkages—How will the exchange foster long-term partnerships?
- Institutional ranking—The standing of the candidate’s institution in Canada’s selection process.
How to Apply for ELAP 2025
Applications must be submitted by a Canadian institution on behalf of eligible students. The deadline is March 18, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. EDT.
Step-by-Step Application Guide
- Assign a Program Coordinator—The Canadian institution must designate a coordinator to handle applications.
- Create an EduCanada Account—
- Visit the EduCanada portal and click “Login or Register.”
- Select “Institution” as the account type.
- Start the Application—
- Choose the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program.
- Click “Apply” and enter all required details.
- Upload Supporting Documents—
- Ensure each document is under 5MB and in one of the following formats: .jpg, .gif, .png, .pdf, .doc, .docx, .txt, or .xlsx.
- Review & Validate—Carefully check all details before submitting.
