Sudan war: After the RSF raid, Al-Burhan travels to Gezira state

Sudan’s army chief visited Gezira state in southeast Sudan on Thursday, June 6, in the wake of an offensive by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Gen. Abdel Fattah Burhan arrived to the sound of “one army, one people” chants from the audience.

During their raid on the Wad Al-Noura village in Al Gezira state, the RSF slaughtered at least 100 people.

The Sudanese Armed Forces’ Facebook page featured footage of Burhan visiting hospitalized patients who were injured.

According to the Madani Resistance Committee, a community-based organization established to defend citizens of the capital of al-Gezira state, the RSF began besieging and attacking the Wad Al-Noura village on Wednesday, June 5, using heavy artillery.

According to reports, among the victims are women and children.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized what he called a “heinous massacre” and held the world community responsible for such atrocities in a statement to the local news site Sudan Tribune.

The nation has been destroyed by the RSF and Sudanese army’s one-year conflict.

Thousands more have been injured and around 14,000 people have died.

7.1 million people are internally displaced, according to the International Organization for Migration.

“Coward”

The African trade body Intergovernmental Authority on Development persuaded al-Burhan and Dagalo to consent to a face-to-face meeting last month as the RSF seemed to be winning the battle.

Al-Burhan, however, dismissed that theory on Friday, branding his opponent a “clown,” “traitor,” and “coward.”

He disapproved of the cease-fire agreement that Dagalo signed last week in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.

Al-Burhan also criticized Sudanese lawmakers who met Dagalo in Ethiopia and leaders of African nations such as South Africa, Ethiopia, and Kenya who treated Dagalo as a statesman during trips this week.

Al-Burhan remarked, “He is killing and insulting the Sudanese people, humiliating them, and some people are clapping for him and laughing with him.”
