Three persons were saved from the collapsing building in Abuja.

On Monday, the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) pulled three people who were still alive out of the debris of a four-story structure that had collapsed in Abuja.

No lives were lost in the event, according to Florence Wenegieme, the department’s acting director-general, who made this announcement in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday.

The building that collapsed, according to Mrs. Wenegieme, was situated at 23 Nkwere Street, which is off Ahmadu Bello Way in Area 11, Garki in the Federal Capital Territory.

The victims, she claimed, had been brought to the hospital, where they received treatment before being released.

She stated that at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Monday, FEMD received a distress call regarding the building’s collapse while it was

undergoing renovations via the department’s 112 emergency toll-free number.

The Department of Development Control, FCT Fire Service, Federal Fire Service, Julius Berger Fire Service, and

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were reportedly immediately notified, according to her.

The Garki Divisional Police Command was already on the scene, the acting DG said, adding that CGC Construction business had also been called in to offer support.

She further mentioned that when the structure collapsed, other construction workers were outside.

“Developers and people should rigorously comply to building codes at all times and engage only competent builders and engineers, even though no lives were lost in the tragedy.

She advised developers to “use only standard building materials and conduct integrity tests on existing buildings before carrying out renovations.”

Director of Development Control Mukhtar Galadima responded to the development by ordering the destruction of the remaining buildings and sealing the area.

Mr. Galadima revealed that additional buildings in the same vicinity would undergo integrity tests by the Nigerian Buildings and Roads Research Institute.
