Tinubu commiserates with flood victims Maiduguri.
President Bola Tinubu issued a call on Tuesday for residents of flood-hit towns to evacuate immediately. Tinubu, who expressed serious concern about floods in sections of Borno State’s capital, Maiduguri, instructed relevant government agencies to accelerate rescue efforts.
While the relevant authorities are still assessing the damage caused by the flood, the President has called for the immediate evacuation of people from the affected areas.
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, issued a statement urging people to evacuate impacted areas due to flood damage.
The message is titled “President Tinubu Expresses Concern Over Maiduguri Flood, Pledges Federal Support.” Borno State in Northeast Nigeria is experiencing its worst flood in decades, forcing hundreds of citizens to evacuate their homes as water overtakes them.
After reviewing the damage caused by the flood, the President asks for the immediate evacuation of individuals from the affected districts.
Government facilities such as a post office and the Maiduguri Teaching Hospital were impacted, as well as a cemetery and a zoo causing wild animals to flee for safety.
Onanuga stated, “President Tinubu offers his profound condolences to the administration and people of the state, particularly to the families who have lost their means of livelihood as a result of the calamity caused by the Alau Dam overflow.
“President Tinubu assures Governor Babagana Zulum that the Federal Government is ready to work together to meet the afflicted people’s immediate humanitarian needs.
“He has ordered the National Emergency Management Agency to assist the flood victims.” The presidential aide stated that Tinubu is still committed to mobilizing government resources to assist the state during this tough period.
