About This Fellowship

With an emphasis on impact measurement, the Young Impact Associates (YIA) Fellowship in Agrifood Systems is a one-year program designed to develop and equip up-and-coming African professionals with the know-how to spearhead revolutionary change throughout the continent’s agrifood systems.

A cooperative network of organizations, comprising Akademiya2063, the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP), AWARD (African Women in Agricultural Research and Development), and CIFOR-ICRAF, oversees this fellowship.

Under the supervision of the Mastercard Foundation’s Impact Partner Organizations (IPOs), these organizations solidify their partnership. The YIA Fellowship’s primary goal is to help young African talent advance their careers by giving them the tools they need to succeed in positions involving impact research, monitoring, and consulting.

In order to evaluate and convey the results of inclusive interventions in Africa’s food and agriculture sectors, the program is intended to equip participants with useful tools, firsthand knowledge, and in-depth expertise.

The program’s participants, known as Young Impact Associates (YIAs), will actively contribute to the Mastercard Foundation’s objective of developing a new generation of qualified impact professionals.

The fellowship supports meaningful engagement in evidence-based development, promotes leadership, and supports continuous learning.

The Mastercard Foundation and its partners are contributing to the development of a future in which impact measurement serves as a catalyst for sustainable advancement in Africa’s agrifood systems rather than merely a tool by funding young professionals through the YIA Fellowship.
